Kumbukani was orphaned as a young man, and left without means to pursue an advanced education that would allow him to earn steady income for the most basic goods of shelter, food and clothing. Through his hard work, undying dreams and a bit of outside assistance from Canadian and American donors, Kumbukani is now poised to enter the ranks of the steadily employed in Malawi. His associate’s degree is in Community Development.
Maurice volunteered with the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative clinic, but always dreamed of working in Tourism with a greater income. He was recommended by the physician staff at the BIPAI clinic for his hard work and intelligence. Stating that it has always been important to him to become more educated, but restricted from doing so by finances, Maurice applied through the Kumbukani Scholars Program. He is currently enrolled in a public university in Blantyre and will complete his education in a year and a half.
– Davie also volunteered with the BIPAI clinic, and dreamt of being able to contribute to his community by becoming a nurse. Davie is a worthy candidate, but awaits a scholar like you to help him pursue his dream.
